Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport is about 12 km west of the Main Town, and the city has given it more ways in than most visitors expect: a railway station in front of the terminal, two day bus lines into the centre, a night bus, a taxi partner with flat fares and pre-booked transfers. The catch: the train needs a change at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, and the bus is slow in traffic. Here is what each option costs and how long it takes, checked against the operators' own pages.

Quick Answer: The cheapest way is bus 210 to Dworzec Główny: 4.80 zł (about €1.10), around 40 minutes. The train needs a change at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz; one 8.50 zł Bilet Miejski covers the whole trip. The airport's taxi partner charges a flat 99 zł by day and 120 zł at night. A pre-booked private transfer to the centre is €30 per car (1–3 people) or €45 per van.

How does the train from the airport work?

The station, Gdańsk Port Lotniczy, is directly in front of the terminal and connected to it by a covered footbridge from inside the building. Trains on this line, built as the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (PKM), are run by Polregio.

The important part is the change. According to the airport, every train journey to Gdańsk Główny or Gdańsk Śródmieście requires a change at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, where SKM trains into the centre leave from platform 3. The SKM leg from Wrzeszcz to Gdańsk Główny takes 7 minutes in the current timetable, and on weekdays SKM trains run every 10 minutes through the day.

Which ticket? Buy a Bilet Miejski (city ticket) for Gdańsk and Sopot: 8.50 zł, about €2. Under the regional Taryfa Pomorska it is valid on both SKM and Polregio trains within an area that includes the airport line (it runs as far as Gdańsk Osowa), so one ticket covers the airport train and the SKM after the change. Machines on the platform accept payment cards, and the ticket is also sold in the Polregio, SKM and System FALA apps.

The airport train runs less often than the SKM, so check the next departure on the Polregio timetable or the screen in the terminal before you walk across. If you just missed one, bus 210 may get you into town sooner.

Which bus goes from the airport to the centre?

The city bus stops are opposite the terminal, next to car park P1. Three day lines serve the airport (110, 120 and 210); only one goes to the centre.

Tickets: a ZTM Gdańsk single-ride ticket is 4.80 zł (2.40 zł reduced), a 75-minute ticket 6.00 zł and a 24-hour ticket 22.00 zł. You can buy from the machine at the stop (it accepts cards), in apps such as jakdojade.pl, SkyCash or moBiLET, or simply by tapping a contactless bank card on the FALA reader inside the bus. Tap once only: a second tap with the same card ends the ticket, and a third buys a new one.

The ZTM stops are across the road from the terminal; bus 210 is the direct line to the main station.

How much is a taxi from Gdańsk Airport?

The airport lists Neptun Taxi as its taxi partner. Its published airport fares are flat rather than metered:

For short journeys inside Gdańsk the official city tariff applies: a 9 zł starting fee plus 3.90 zł per km by day, or 5.85 zł per km at night, on Sundays and on holidays.

For one or two people with ordinary luggage, the daytime taxi fare is honestly hard to beat. A pre-booked transfer earns its keep with children, groups, late flights or onward trips.

Fixed-price private transfer

A pre-booked transfer means a driver waiting in arrivals with your name, the flight tracked, and a price fixed per vehicle, not per person. ShuttleHero (ShuttleHero is run by the same local team as Gdańsk Insider.) charges:

You pay in advance online by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. Bookings need to be made at least 3 hours ahead. The driver waits free for 60 minutes after your flight actually lands, child seats are €8 each on request, and booking the return trip at the same time takes 10% off the return. The driver is a driver, not a tour guide.

How do I get from Gdańsk Airport to Sopot or Gdynia?

Sopot by train: take the airport train to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz and change to an SKM towards Gdynia. Some trains run through without a change, according to the airport; our Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia guide covers the SKM in detail. The same 8.50 zł Bilet Miejski covers Gdańsk and Sopot. From Wrzeszcz, the SKM reaches Sopot in about 14 minutes.

Gdynia by train: you can go via Wrzeszcz, or take a direct train the other way round via Gdańsk Osowa, which is one of the four routes the airport line serves. Buy the Bilet Trójmiejski (Tri-City ticket) for 12.50 zł, valid across Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia.

By car: the taxi partner's flat fare to Sopot is 120 zł by day; Gdynia is metered. A ShuttleHero transfer is €35 to Sopot or €40 to Gdynia per car, and its airport-to-Sopot guide compares the options from the same starting point.

Arrival tips

Know where you are actually going. "City centre" in Gdańsk can mean the Main Town around Długi Targ, the main station, or Wrzeszcz, which is a 7-minute train ride further out. If your hotel is in Wrzeszcz or Oliwa, the train or bus 110 gets you there without going into the centre at all. Our neighbourhoods guide and where to stay guide explain the districts.

Late arrivals. After about 23:00 the N3 night bus is the only public option to the main station. A flight landing at 23:30 with two children is the situation where a booked car makes the most sense.

Afterwards. Our getting around Gdańsk guide explains trams and day passes; the trip cost guide covers the wider budget.
