Sopot pier, the Molo, is the one thing nearly everyone who comes to Sopot walks along, and it is simpler than the internet makes it look. It is a long wooden deck into the Bay of Gdańsk, it is open day and night, and for half the year you pay a small fee at a gate. What catches visitors out is the detail: when tickets apply, and why the same walk can cost 10 zł at noon and nothing at 7:30 in the morning. We checked the 2026 rules against the pier operator, MOSiR Sopot, so you do not have to.

How long is Sopot pier?
The official figure from MOSiR Sopot is 511.5 metres for the whole structure, with 458 metres of it standing over the water. That is long enough to make it the longest wooden pier in Europe, and long enough that the walk to the end and back takes a relaxed 20 to 30 minutes with stops.
The deck is between 10 and 26 metres wide. About two thirds of the way out, a side arm called the Ostroga, 132 metres long and 5.5 metres wide, branches off. Next to the head of the pier sits the Sopot marina, opened in July 2011 with 103 berths and breakwaters, which is why you see masts rather than open water on one side.
How much is a ticket for Sopot pier in 2026?
Entry is charged only in the warmer half of the year. The 2026 price list from MOSiR Sopot:
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Standard | 10 zł (about €2.40) |
| Reduced, children aged 3 to 16 | 5 zł |
| Family, 2 adults + 1 child | 21 zł |
| Family, 2 adults + 2 children | 22 zł |
| Family, 2 adults + 3 children | 23 zł |
| Visitors aged 70 and over | 8 zł |
| Carer of a person with a first-degree disability certificate | 5 zł |
| Children under 3, people with disabilities up to age 26, Sopot Card holders | Free |
Tickets are sold at the ticket offices under the arcades to the left of the pier entrance, at the ticket machines before the gate, at the tourist information points and online via the MOSiR website. There is no reservation and no timed entry, so you can simply turn up. Cards are fine.
When is Sopot pier free to enter?
The pier is open 24 hours a day all year round, except on days when the weather makes it dangerous. What changes through the year is the fee. In 2026 the rules are:
| Period | Tickets needed |
|---|---|
| 1 January to 9 April | No, free entry |
| 10 April to 26 June | Sunday to Thursday 8:00 to 20:00; Friday and Saturday 8:00 to 22:00 |
| 27 June to 31 August | Around the clock |
| 1 to 30 September | Sunday to Thursday 8:00 to 20:00; Friday and Saturday 8:00 to 21:00 |
| 1 October to 31 December | No, free entry |
So if you are in Sopot in May, June or September, a walk before 8:00 or after 20:00 on a weekday costs nothing. In July and August there is no free window. The 2027 season had not been announced when we checked; in 2025 the pattern was very similar, with paid entry from 11 April to 30 September at the same 10 zł price.
Sopot residents and holders of an active Sopot Card (Karta Sopocka) walk on free.
What is on Sopot pier?
Mostly space. From the far end you look back at the Grand Hotel and the resort villas against the wooded hills, and on a clear day you can pick out the cranes of Gdynia to the north and the Gdańsk shipyards to the south.
- The marina beside the pier head, with yachts moored behind its breakwaters.
- The Ostroga side arm, quieter than the main deck and good for photos back towards the shore.
- Skwer Kuracyjny, the 20,000 m² spa square at the land end, with a historic fountain, a concert shell and the Sopot lighthouse with its viewing point.
- Amber and souvenir stalls around the entrance. If you plan to buy amber, read our amber shopping guide first.
Monte Cassino street: from the station to the sea
Ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, known to everyone as Monciak, is the pedestrian spine of Sopot and the way almost every visitor reaches the pier. It runs downhill from near the station to the seafront, lined with cafés and shops. About halfway down, at No. 53, is the Crooked House (Krzywy Domek), the warped-facade building that ends up in everyone's photos. At the bottom the street opens onto the spa square and the pier gate.
Our Sopot day trip guide covers the street, the beach and where to eat in more detail, and Sopot vs Gdańsk helps if you are deciding where to stay.
How do I get to Sopot pier?
From Gdańsk or Gdynia by SKM train
The SKM commuter train is the easy answer. From Gdańsk Główny or Gdańsk Wrzeszcz it takes about 20 minutes to Sopot station (not Sopot Wyścigi or Sopot Kamienny Potok, which are further from the pier). On the official SKM fare table a single ticket for that distance is 8 zł, and the same 8 zł covers Gdynia Główna to Sopot. Buy at the platform machines, which take cards, and validate a paper ticket before you board.
From Sopot station to the pier on foot
Leave the station on the seaward side and head downhill into Monte Cassino. It is about 1 km to the pier gate, 12 to 15 minutes at a stroll, and roughly 1.5 km to the end of the pier. The walk back up is gently uphill, so allow a few extra minutes if you have a train to catch.
From Gdańsk Airport
By public transport, take the PKM train from the airport to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz and change there to the SKM towards Gdynia; with the change, plan on roughly an hour. If you are arriving with luggage and staying in Sopot, a private transfer is simpler. A ShuttleHero transfer from the airport to Sopot is a fixed €35 per car for one to three people or €50 per van for four to eight, paid in advance by card online, with 60 minutes of free waiting after your actual landing time. (ShuttleHero is run by the same local team as Gdańsk Insider.) The step-by-step options, including the train, are in ShuttleHero's Gdańsk Airport to Sopot guide.
When is the best time to visit Sopot pier?
- Early morning, any season. Before 8:00 the deck is close to empty and, outside 27 June to 31 August, the gate is free.
- Sunset in May, June or September. The sun drops over the hills behind the town rather than into the sea, so the light falls on the pier and the bay. On weekdays the charging hours end at 20:00.
- Winter. Free, quiet and often beautiful after snow, but bitterly windy at the far end. Check the forecast; the pier closes in storms.
For a wider plan, our Tricity tour guide fits the pier into a day with Gdańsk and Gdynia, and the beaches guide covers the sand on either side.
